POKOTABI / PLACES WORTH A DETOUR
THE BREAD
At the bakery inside Yaohiko Main Building, take a break with a dashimaki egg sandwich and coffee, or pick up a savoury bread such as mentaiko French bread or one made with vegetables.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
A dashimaki egg sandwich—filled with Japanese rolled omelette—and a coffee make for a light meal at THE BREAD. One diner who ate in chose this sandwich and also noted the coffee’s aroma, reminiscent of charcoal. It’s an option when you want something to tide you over with a drink, rather than simply buying bread to take away.
For something more savoury, mentaiko French bread and corn bread offer contrasting textures. One customer reported that the mentaiko bread was crisp on the outside without reheating, while the corn bread was soft and chewy as served. Vegetable-filled breads are also among the choices; diners have mentioned varieties with burdock, Kujo spring onion and turnip. Others enjoyed an epi with Kujo spring onion and bacon, and bread with tuna and burdock—appealing options when you’re after something more meal-like than a sweet pastry.
Since the bakery is inside Yaohiko Main Building, you can stop in while shopping. There’s space to eat in, and takeaway is available. Customers have also bought croissants with a buttery flavour and baguette-and-cheese casse-croûte sandwiches whose flavour develops as you chew. The selection works for anything from a light bite to something to take home.
